The RavenHawk Incident

Introduction:
Here’s the first short story I’m posting here. It’s my first time writing this kind of story, and was certainly good for practice. The main character/concept was conceived originally as a book possibly, and this could probably be used as a first chapter, but I’m not planning on doing any more with this concept right now. Maybe after I’ve worked on some other things.

Now I haven’t really gone over this, so if there are any spelling or grammar things let me know and I’ll fix them up. Also its about 2500 words, so its a bit long.

CthuluTech

I’m going to be game mastering my first tabletop RPG soonish, and it sort of just happened that way. I heard about this system called CthuluTech that was based on H.P. Lovecraft’s works, as well as sci-fi/mech animes.

Aside from the setting sounding pretty cool I had heard good things about it so I ordered the core book. I showed it to some friends and they all wanted to play it just from hearing the concept. So since I got the book, I was charged with running the game.

I’m still working on what the story is going to … Continue Reading

Webcomic Trade Paperbacks

When I was at Connecticon this year I picked up a copy of Applegeeks’ first book. I finally got around to reading it, and its pretty interesting to re-read it again after so many years. It caused me to realize that reading a trade paperback of a webcomic is an altogether different experience then reading a trade of a normal comic book, or of even a newspaper comic.

What makes it different is that you really get to see the art and writing grow a lot. When looking at the Applegeeks book, or even the Penny Arcade books, a … Continue Reading

I watched the Emmys

As the title says I watched the Emmys last night, but unlike other years or other award shows I’ve tried to watch, I actually watched the whole thing. All 3 hours.

I think this was in no small part due to Neil Patrick Harris, who was hosting. It didn’t feel as serious as other years, or award shows. The tone was set pretty early that things were going to be funny. It wasn’t so much the canned dialogue from the presenters, as it was that people were generally pretty funny during the acceptance speeches.

Toss in the occasional sight gag like … Continue Reading

Stoked

One of the reasons I wanted to start this blog was actually so I could talk about this show Stoked, that I happened to catch a marathon of on Cartoon Network a few weeks back. However with my classes starting back up and some other things I sort of forgot about it, but then I was reminded of it today when I happened to catch another episode on TV.

Anyway the show is about some kids who go off to work at a surfing resort in Western Canada for the summer. It generally doesn’t sound too interesting, and I honestly only … Continue Reading

Videogame Narrative Stuff

I’ve been reading up a lot lately on stuff relating to storytelling and writing in videogames lately, because it is both something I am doing to an extent/want to do and also because of what I’m working on for my graduate thesis.

Now I was going to write a post here about videogame narrative stuff, but I’m having trouble deciding what I want to say without going in-depth into what I’m working on for my possible thesis.

So rather then trying to come up with something that wouldn’t be too interesting for this post I figured I’d post this video of a … Continue Reading

US Open 2009

Over the past two weeks I’ve been really into watching the US Open of tennis. I mostly chalk this up to having HD DirectTV, which had 5 channels of HD coverage during the first week of the tourney. So I could watch some of the not so well known players play. Which tends to be where the really good matches are in the first week.

I’ve been to the US Open twice in person, its a really neat experience compared to other sporting events since its more like a convention or expo. Generally you get a general admission pass and then … Continue Reading

Today’s that day that movie 9 comes out, nothing else eventful today right?

Tried to go with a sarcastic title, not sure how well it actually worked… anyway I’m not sure what there is to say today. I was going write a post about something, but it seemed like it would be in bad taste or something. So I figured I would just post one of my favorite quotes from Jon Stewart, this is from the commencement speech he made at William and Mary in 2004 I think.

“I was in New York on 9-11 when the towers came down. I lived 14 blocks from the twin towers. And when they came down, I … Continue Reading

9/9/99 to 9/9/09

10 years ago I found myself in line outside my local Electronic Boutique waiting to pick up my Sega Dreamcast. It was not only my first time picking up a console on its launch day, but it was also the first time I had pre-ordered a console.

The Dreamcast was really just something else on in so many different ways, from the VMU to the crazy peripherals (maracas anyone?) There was internet connectivity years ahead of any other console (both narrowband and broadband.) Along with library of games which is just full of, for the lack of a better term coming … Continue Reading

Number 9… Number 9… Number 9…

So I’ve decided to stop the Q2N comic for now, mostly because I don’t think I’m able to write and draw it up to the level I want it to be at. So rather then letting the domain go to waste I’ve decided to convert it into my personal blog which will contain my random musing, as well as other writings, and probably art and maybe some one shot comics.

I’m going to continue working on Quest to Nowhere, but as a book. I’ll post updates about that, and probably post some short stories and whatnot that I’ll do for … Continue Reading
