Obligatory Halloween Related Videogame Post

Since its Halloween here in the US, I feel obliged to tell the tale of a scary videogame I once played. It’s not the longest, or most flattering story about myself, but here I go anyway.

So this was back… uh… well back in the Playstation 1 days. Before PS2 was even a glimmer in our eyes as gamers. It was also a time when you could go to your local video store (and by video I mean VHS, not DVD,) and you could rent videogames from them. Usually for 3 days at a time, I think it was about $3.30. Which seems … Continue Reading

My Trouble with Brutal Legend

I’ve been having trouble getting into Brutal Legend, not that I’m having trouble in the difficulty level of the game, but rather that I’m not really wanting to play it. I haven’t been able to figure out why, I figured that perhaps playing it after Uncharted 2 was clouding my judgement of games. I mean everyone I know has been raving on it, and I feel like I should really like it, but for whatever reason I couldn’t figure out my problem with it. Then I watched Yahtzee’s review of the game, and it all sort of gelled together … Continue Reading

Recovering from GameX

I was down in Philadelphia this past weekend to check out GameX, but mostly for the GameX Industry Summit. I’m still pretty beat from the whole thing, and trying to catch up on my work, so I’ll post a more in depth post about the whole thing later. But for now what I’ll tell you is that Bayonetta is looking like its going to be cool, Dante’s Inferno is not.

I signed the petition

I signed the petition against dedicated servers being removed from the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I was signature 121,594.

I signed it after reading this editorial by the editor of PC Gamer magazine.

Infinity Ward missing the point?

Infinity Ward rather stealthily announced a few days back on a CoD fan podcast that in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that there would be no dedicated fan run servers, because they want everything to be done as matchmaking through their servers. Of course this has caused quite a kerfuffle on the ol’ internets, leading to (last I checked) 85,000 people signing an online petition asking IW to reconsider.

Although I can understand to an extent why they are doing this (helps to prevent piracy, more ad money from ads on their servers, etc.) it seems to me that they … Continue Reading

[NEWS] More posts incoming…

Just a quick little news bit. I have another blog that I used to do called One Gamer’s Opinion, it was mostly about videogame related stuff but eventually evolved into talking about more then just that. So because it seemed odd to have two blogs going I’ve merged the two here. So if you care you can go back into the archives now and read all the One Gamer’s Opinion posts if you want.

Also I think I’m going to start posting more in general. So expect to see possibly more smaller posts commenting/analyzing news, or other things.

Halo: ODST

I picked up Halo: ODST (which I now read in my head as “Ah-dst,”) a little over a week ago mostly to check out for the story stuff in the game. The story stuff is really interesting, since there are essentially two parts to it.

In the game you are playing as a lone special forces type trooper, who has been unconscious for a few hours after getting dropped into a urban warzone. As you make your way through the city you find items that give you flashbacks to what the rest of your team was doing while you were … Continue Reading

Don’t you want Wii anymore?

Wii in a hatI got a Nintendo Wii at launch. Picked it up at midnight with some friends at the local GameStop, then took it home and promptly played lots of Wii Sports on it. It’s now almost 2010, and my Wii sits next to my TV, on top of my 360, wearing the Scribblenauts hat. It hasn’t been plugged into a TV, let alone played since the weekend after Mario Kart Wii came out. That was April 2008, 18 months ago.

I’m not sure why I still keep … Continue Reading

30 Rock

When 30 Rock originally started I didn’t really like it at all, but after the Emmy’s this year I decided it might be time to give it another chance. I like Tina Fey’s work, and it seemed like a show I should like, but for some reason I didn’t like it back then. I think that was mostly due to my love of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which I think was one of the best shows ever on TV, and 30 Rock’s success was probably one of the reasons why it was canceled.

So anyway I gave 30 Rock … Continue Reading

Stargate Universe

I’ve been a fan of the Stargate shows. I’ve seen most of SG-1, and the first two seasons of Atlantis (I lost interest in it after that.)

Last night was the airing of the first episode of the new Stargate show, Stargate Universe. After watching it I’m definitely interested in it. It seems to me though that its going to be Battlestar Galactica meets Stargate, it’s certainly visual shot that way in this first episode. It’s got that sometimes shaky cam/domentary style of camera work that BSG had.

Its hard to say so far if its going to be any good, … Continue Reading
