NY Comic-Con Day 1 Report
This was my first NYCC and I have to say that I was really impressed with it. The entire thing, minus panels, is in one big exhibition hall in the Javits Center. I saw a ton of cool stuff, especially figures (none of which I bought.) It seemed like all the really cool stuff was really expensive, like limited edition figures going for hundreds of dollars.
When I got there I met up with Shawn of Staccato/Halolz who hooked me up with an exhibitor badge, which let me get in early since from 11 to 3 the exhibitors hall is closed to the public. He was sharing a booth with Scott of VGCats, and Dave of Snafu. I hadn’t seen Scott in a really long time, and I got to meet his finance who was really cool.
After helping them setup at the table I walked around a whole lot to see if I could find some cool stuff to buy. I ended up picking up a bunch of books, namely: Runaways hardcover Volume 2 and 3 (I have vol 1 and have been meaning to get the other 2,) Mouse Guard Fall 1152 (which I bought from the author/artist who both signed it and did a little drawing in it,) picked up two Oni Press books Lost at Sea (the Scott Pilgrim’s author’s first comic) and Queen and Country (which looked cool, and apparently won some Eisener awards when it was first released,) and I also picked up the trade for the second X-23 mini series (I’m a big X-23 fan, plus she’s one of the few superheroes I like to keep up with. I also got two posters, one was a con exclusive Scott Pilgrim poster (I couldn’t pass up the chance to get that,) and also got a limited edition X-23 mini poster from the artist on the original X-23 mini who was there.
I also got to play the Metal Gear Online beta, which they were demoing. I really needed more time with it, which I will have since I’m currently installing the beta on my PS3 as I type this. But from what little I played, there seems to be a lot of potential there. Ubisoft was also there demoing the Lost game, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I didn’t play either. There were also demo stations for the Civilization Wii game, but I completely forgot to try it out. There were also some superhero games (for the new movies,) and some Naruto games playable, but I didn’t bother with them, (Although I will have something to say about the new Naruto PS3 game soon.)
I was hoping to go back up to the con today, but after walking around all day yesterday I was completely beat, and woke up too late. It also doesn’t help that my shoulder is killing me. I was dumb and walked around all day with my bag full of all the book I bought. Live and learn I guess.
